Air bag separating???
I've got an 81 that I was planning on bagging. I bought a bunch of the neccessary stuff from a guy down in dallas and he sent me some used bags with all the other stuff. Anyhow, There is some separation going on where the upper part of the bag meets the lid. Obviously this is probably not good, but realistically how much longer will they last? I inflated them to max psi with no problem and let them sit a couple of weeks and there was no deflation, but there was also no load.
Just wanted to see if it would be worth running them for a little while. Haven't driven the truck in way too long and I'm starting to get ancy. It will soon be parked at my dads house for a few years because I'm joining the air force. He doesn't want the bags on there because of the terrain of his property so they will end up coming back off before the 12 hour drive to alabama. And I don't want to spend the money on new ones right now because I'm sure after four years they will more than likely be dry rot and I will have to buy them again... that would suck Anyhow, I'm sure I can guess what everyone will say, just thought I'd get a little shove in the right direction before throwing them out.... Thanks guys |

Re: Air bag separating???
I would not recommend using used components on ANY air ride system, regardless of their appearance.

Re: Air bag separating???
what brand are they? ive used plenty of used parts in my day, none has ever failed. however mine all looked good, and the things i could take apart and clean, i did. parts were quality brands too.
if the bag is already seperating though, i wouldnt trust it. |

No more than bags cost I wouldn't use one if I thought for a second it might be less than perfect. A small issue now could cause a huge problem later.

Re: Air bag separating???
I was basically thinking the same thing... very tempting, but a bag blow out may make me piss my pants... I'd prefer not to do that. I dunno... maybe I'm weird.

Looks like you have a spare, if you stick with the same brand....
