Torsion bar pro's please chime in

Hi all,

I have been working hard on a 60 swb for the wife. I have gone with a drop spindle so I can keep the torsion front end. I dont know how I missed it but somehow I missed a repair to the shock mount on the lower front A arm.. It looks to be strong but it also looks like a hack job. My question is, locally I have a guy that has a 1 ton 1960 he is parting out and I have been invited to take a look. Was wondering if they were the same for the 1/2 to the 1 ton, I figured the torsion bar diameter might be diff but figured someone here might know off hand if the A arms are the same. Thanks for the help guys. I have tons of pic's I will be posting soon as I know how they are loved, kinda wanted to have the frame/suspension complete and of course I keep running into those lil things..

I don't know for positive but I would say no. I had a chevy 1/2 ton and a GMC 1 ton and I could never get front end parts for the 1 ton especialy a frame bushings but I could get stuff for the 1/2 so I think ,and am pretty sure there not gonna be the same.I bet I have one tho. Let me know what happens.

I'm not positive, but I think they would be the same except for the ball joint hole. Just how bad is the shock mount on the one you have now? I can probably fix it for you.

Thanks for the responces guys. I will let you know shortly as I got over to the truck that the guy was parting out and no one had taken a thing.. 1960 1ton dually.. offered me the whole thing for 200$.. doesnt have a bed but couldnt pass it up so it is now sitting in my back yard. The shock mount looks awful, it probably had rusted out and whom ever had a welder and no brains welded tons of fender washers on each side and used a 5' bolt to go through.. I am going to check this rigs out and see, if not I figure since most people do the front end swop I should be able to get one fairly reasonable. I'll PM ya Old Chev incase it doesnt fit if you happen to have one.

Oh and Cpt its getting warmer, once the snow is gone I will be able to get out to that truck and cut that cab piece if you are still in need, I'll send ya a PM when I get it cut.

Thanks,

Skez

I might consider the whole cab if the price is right. That'll save you the trouble of cuting. Did you get that 1 ton up in Sandpoint?

if u still need a lower control arm im getting rid of a 61 1/2 ton frame. i put my truck on a newer style frame because it would of been to much work to shorten the x frame.
