stuck gear shifter.. any ideas

well i had it in neutral for past couple weeks so i can roll it front and back so i can move it to where im working on her so i can have better light.. i put tank in yesterday to start it up and let it run... the shifter is stuck in park.... no matter how hard i tug on it it wont budge.. then magially it went down into drive..but not its stuck again and this time im not so lucky.. so i had to get under truck and unhook it from tranny and i had to put it in neutral that way...so trans is in neutral but shifter is in park...how do i get the shifter unstuck?

Try pulling the shifter back towards you before you shift it out of park.

The 1st time I did actually try getting my shifter out of park (before it had a motor) it took some serious muscle. It's gotten easier with time though driving.

Look at where the linkage hooks to the steering column out under the hood and see if it's hitting something or binding up. If you have it disconnected from the transmission and the transmission works by hand then it's in the shifter.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: stuck gear shifter.. any ideas

i think it might be where the cab is sitting andy because after reading your post i did a stupid move.. i put tank in and took it out on street to burn some rubber on saturday and once i got it back in shop and took tank out i remembered that all 4 cab mounts were outt... so im going to try moving cab over and that might the problem??? does that sound like it could be... i know i did a stupid move but hey it was fun seeing a smoke cloud

If the cab shoved up against the column then YEA thats it. That's why cabs are bolted down before driving them!
