exhaust manifold bolts

I need exhaust manifold bolts for the head. I bought new manifolds and the old bolts are worn out and rusted away. I went to Chevy dealer they only carry metric. I went to Lowes but was wondering if their bolts would be strong enough? Can anyone tell me where I can get a set for my 350 72 engine? Saw one set on E-bay.

What size washer goes on the bolt to the harmonic balancer? I believe mine has the washer for the big block because it goes over the hole and not into the hole.

Re: exhaust manifold bolts

www.truckandcarshop.com has the correct manifold bolts. check with a vendor here also, as they might have them as well.

I also used some grade 8 bolts from home depot a few yrs back, and they have held up just fine.

Re: exhaust manifold bolts

any grade 5 or better bolt will do. They aren't anything special. Put antiseize compound on them before you install them for the next guy.

Re: exhaust manifold bolts

if you want a washer that fits into the harmonic balancer why not just use a ruler and measure the diameter of the hole you want the washer to go into?

Re: exhaust manifold bolts

Most Ace hardware stores have a good selection. I use grade 8 bolts on manifolds & practically everything else. They are identified by 6 lines on the head. The damper washer is a special washer. It has a 7/16 bolt hole & is extra thick. The dealer should have it or the salvage lot.

Re: exhaust manifold bolts

I always use normal old grade 8 3/8 inch bolts for my manifolds. Tractor Supply sells them by the pound.
