swapping to 5 lug
Was wondering about the swap
for the rear i just need new axle shafts? any different gear pieces in back? up front i just need new 5 lug rotors?

In the rear, it is my understanding that you'd need a '70 rear end that would accept the axles from a '71-74. Better plan would be the whole rear end from a '71-72.
If you still have 6-lug up front (drums), there is no 5-lug stuff that will slide onto your spindles. A disc conversion is in your future if you have to have 5-lug bolt pattern stuff.

Im currently doing the same thing. You should be able to use parts all the way up to 87. I just gutted an 86 that im using for my swap... at the very least you'll need spindles, tie rod ends. i took it to the next step though....
from this to this parts ready for refurb. also took the booster, steering box, column, sway bar, and steering linkages, and just about every thing else i may or may not use. |

As far as the rear goes, you can order new axles from MOSER that will fit your rear end, or send your axles and drums to them and they will re-drill. For the front you will need to buy a kit, or find a donor. A couple of weeks ago someone on here said they used rotors and calipers from an 89' or 91', I don't recall which. He said they fit the spindles no problem. I don't know if its true or not, but you could search the forum and probably find his thread.

I think the chassis from '63 to '69 is essentially the same as far as components are concerned. The '60-62's have torsion bars for the front suspension. In '70, the rear axle was slightly wider than the previous years. Of course, the '71 and up had disc brakes...but you already knew that.

Also early classic sells 5 lug axles that will fit your existing rear end

Yea, i recently purchased a 69 swb truck, its a 350/350 with a 12 bolt rear end. I have a 12 bolt rear end with a 411 posi, i was just thinking of swapping to 5 lug while i am at it ! I have a disc brake set up, 2.5 inch drop, that i bought awhile ago originally for my burb, but i realized the spindles were ment for 67-72 ball joints so i just set it aside as before purchasing the disc brake set up, i installed all new ball joints.
