Question Tailgates & usps shipping

Okay, I'm sure I'm not the first to try and figure out how much shipping a tailgate is going to cost......so for those that have actually done it.......what was the damage to the wallet?

I've checked w/UPS....$108-$110 USPS (as best I can figure...) $37.35 for Priority Mail, $184.10 for Express Mail, $28.11 for Parcel Post.

UPS is a little high priced I think.

Parcel Post is out of the question, cause who knows when it'd actually arrive and in what condition it would be.

Express Mail is outrageously priced, so the winner sounds like it is going to be Priority Mail.

I rated the tailgate/pkging @ 50lbs. Sizing it @ 70"x10"x25.

Can somebody share their experiences w/shipping such an item???

Thanks,
Greg

Have you checked with Greyhound.

I've never used them personally, but it's my understanding that they're fairly reasonable, & they can handle odd shaped packages.

Try fedex. I shipped one from NM to SC for about $50.

Re: Tailgates & usps shipping

I shipped one ups....I had a prestine tailgate, took it to ups, it was 72X5 ....I think and wieghed 60 lbs from cali to wi, and cost $74.00. READ THIS: IF THE BOW WAS 73 INCHS THE COST WENT TO $127.00 FOR ONE INCH!... I know, Iknow, some people make a big deal about one inch but......make sure you get insurerance for how much the gate is worth-I failed to do this and the gate was dented by the shipper even though I wrapped it in bubble wrap and put foam in it! The only way i WOULD SHIP ONE NOW IS DOUBLE THE INSUREANCE AND MAKE A WOOD CASE TO SHIP IT IN OR PAY THE UPS GUYS 100+ TO PACK IT FOPR YOU......OR JUST HAVE THE GUY SWING BY AND PICK IT UP...
