EBS brakes

Can someone help?

I have a 99 yukon, my ABS light has been coming on the last couple of days. If the warning light is on when I first start to move the breaks seem to work ok, but if the warning light is off when I first start and I hit the break peddal the pedal is hard and the breaks chatter as if the ABS is trying to work. The warning light then comes on and stays on until I turn the truck off. Can someone shed a little info on this so I don't get riped off when I take the truck to get looked at. This is why I would rather drive my 68 things are just plain and simple they either work or don't work....no electronics

thanks......Rick

Re: EBS breaks

I'm not sure if it's the same on the 99's as it was on earlier 88-98's but they had an ABS control module located under the brake booster.

If there is an ABS or EBS module located under the hood, check in connections.

Pull all the connectors and verify that they are making good connection.

Re: EBS brakes

Sounds like youve got a wheel speed sensor problem, check the wires going to the speed sensors. If the light is already on then the ABS module is going to ignore the input from the problem wheel speed sensor circuit and the brakes will feel normal. If the light isnt on and the fault occurs while braking the ABS module is gonna interrpt the sudden loss of wheel speed sensor input as a wheel locking up so itll take control of the brakes away from you and begin "ABS" stop.
