700R4 shift slots
I'm new to the whole 700r4 thing, and am curious, will it still have only 3 shift points for the shifter? Or do i need a shifter with 4 slots? If it helps, the tranny does have the electric lockup thing.
My current assumption is that a shifter with 3 slots will work fine. When it's in 3rd, the tranny will be able to shift to 4th assuming the switch is engaged. is this correct? |

it'll be fine. you won't be able to manually select 1st though.

It will have 4 notches from 1st thru 4th . It's just that your pointer won't line up correctly with the PRND21 indicator. You can buy a replacement that shows PRND321.
...or did I misunderstand the question?

Re: 700R4 shift slots
nope, that's my question. but now comes the shifter... i picked up a B&M t handle shifter (used, so i only have the shifter, not the housing with indicator).
so with that said, i basically will have to pull up the handle to get into neutral? That's ok with me if that's the case. I'd rather that be the case than have a chance of the shifter getting pushed into R while moving forward. btw, on this shifter, any idea why park has two notches? |

Re: 700R4 shift slots
Astro van columns work great in these trucks (late 80's early 90s). You get the tilt, dimmer and wiper all on the column. That's what I used in my 48 anyways.

Re: 700R4 shift slots
Does the Astrovan column have the gear indicator on it too? You wouldn't by chance have a pic or two of one installed in our favorite trucks would you?

Re: 700R4 shift slots
The "slots" are in the transmission itself, not the shifter, Depending on what shifter you have you can get a new indicator for it.

Re: 700R4 shift slots
I have always liked that truck Rob. The column looks good in there. Thanks.
