Red Trucks ???

I have a white/med red/white 1972 Cheyenne that I am re-building and the build sheet calls out MED RED. I am looking at the 1972 PPG color chart and they have two choices. I am assuming since my MED RED has a touch of orange to it, it is probably 514 Red. The second color red on the chart is 513 Flame Red. Does anyone have pictures/trucks in either one of these colors and if so, would you please post them? Thanks.

Joel

Re: Red Trucks ???

Mine is 514 Red. The SPID calls it Light Red, but I have also heard it referred to as Medium Red. Probably depends on which plant built the truck and typed up the SPID. It was the only red available for the chevys since Flame Red was a GMC only color. It does lean toward orange, but I like it because your truck can be red or orange depending on the time of day or the weather. I usually describe it as tomato soup red. Can you post a picture of your truck?

That almost looks like the Matador Red, that was used on Vettes back in the late fifties. Just wondering if you have one of those rare Vette trucks

Nice trucks and the color sure beats Ochre

Unfortunately, the truck was in pieces and it went straight to the sandblaster as soon as I had the cab stripped. Here is a picture of the firewall showing the color.

Re: Red Trucks ???

Here's mine, Med. red '72 cheyenne just like yours. Lots of people like to call it orange, but like red71c10 said, it dpends on the time of day. I like it! Mine was built in Flint, MI btw.

Re: Red Trucks ???

That's interesting. On my '71 they called it Light Red, and on your '72 they called it Medium Red. Both made in Flint, both very similar. Wish mine was as nice as yours, but I'm just getting started. One of these days.....

This is an original 1970 truck and the SPID says Light Red. You can see the color better in the second picture.
