Good News!!!

It RUNSSSS

as some of you know I have been doing a engine rebuild the last week.

here are some specs

87 TBI block
70~sbc 400 heads
Comp cams Mutha Thumpr cam Kit
Flat top pistons
650 edelbrock carb
long tubes
2200 stall

Movie With open shorties

Movie with long tubes and mufflers

Now I had a few questions, idle is at about 750 and when I put into drive or while driving and come to a stop it wants to die. I don't have power brakes or any accessories.

Is the timing off?

Thanks and enjoy

Re: Good News!!!

Sounds Like a chopy Cam if you have a beefy cam that could be the reason why it wants to die when you come to a stop.Don't know but that is what I experianced in my 71 I could be wrong and yours might be a different problem Truck Sounds good though..

Re: Good News!!!

Congrats on stat-up!!! With a big cam 750 may be too low in park/neutral. Have you tried turning it up 100 or so? fwiw...650 in drive is what I like to start at.

Re: Good News!!!

On a cam like that youll need to bump up the idle to about 900-1000rpm. Now as far as timing I always set mine by ear. Advance it till you hear it ping under a load then back it off till it stops and its always right on the money then.
