Body Swap
Hey guys. I normally spend alot of time on the 67-72 forum but have been thinking recently about the 60-66 trucks alot. I have completed my frame and drivetrain already. Blasted and painted frame, 4/6 ECE drop. Stainless lines from Inline Tube. 454 .030 over with the goodies, etc. My question is, can I put a 60-66 body on my chassis since it is already completed? This would save me alot of time and money. Anyone know for sure what will work and what wont? I also see my man Tx. Firefighter from the 67-72 board has drifted over as well. If any of you guys need powder coating he is your man. Thanks in advance for all the help.--Josh

Re: Body Swap
Welcome to the '60-'66 forum from Kansas City, KS. I take it that since you frequent the '67-'72 forum, the rolling chassis you have completed is from one of these years...if so, what year is your chassis?
There are some members that have done this swap and will be a wealth of knowledge, but knowing the year may or may not impact the complexity of the swap. Welcome. |

Re: Body Swap
I'm wondering about this too.
A search didn't reveal any definite answers.

Re: Body Swap
Just taking a guess, but I would say the majority of issues would be with the body mounts. I saw a truck on Craigslist out here that was a 66 on a 72 frame. Definitely possible.

Re: Body Swap
The '67-'72 frames are the best to use for swapping a '60-'66 body onto.....much easier than a '73-'87 frame IMO. Some of the things that will have to be changed are the cab mounts, as Protrash mentioned, the front frame horns (if you want to use the '63-'66 front bumper), plus you will need to either swap in the radiator crossmember if you want to use a '63-'66 radiator, or adapt a different radiator onto the radiator support. An easy one to do would be one of the universal aluminum radiators from Summit.

Re: Body Swap
Swapping the cab mounts is nothing. I assume the bed mounts are the same? I would think cutting the frame horns with radiator support off and grafting to the 67-72 frame would be pretty simple as well. Anyone have any pics of a
60-66 on a 67-72 chassis?

Re: Body Swap
By the way, what could I expect to pay for a rust free big window cab? Dont know if the pricing is close to the 67-72 stuff. I I can find a deal on one you guys may have me converted. Then I 'll buy some cab mounts, frame horns and get at it.
