Re: New Motor Shot

Man that sucks.....A fresh motor should not had spun a rod. I think you need to speak to the builder and figure something because that is waaaayyyyyy too soon..just my .02

Re: New Motor Shot

I had the motor built 6 months ago for another project. When it was built it had a 6 month warranty. I sold the project before I ever put the motor in it. so I called the guy told him it wasnt going into anything yet. He told me that was fine before I put it into something bring it to him let him look at it and the warranty would start then. Well Now I called him and told him about it and he wants to tell me its not his problem the warranty is up. so im just at a loss I guess.

Re: New Motor Shot

If that engine builder had any sense of pride in his workmanship, and an ounce of good business sense.. He would at least say for you to bring it in, and he can tear it down to see what failed. If something let go because of poor workmanship, then I would hope that he would work something out with you. But if it blew because you didn't take care of it or something, then the problem is all on you.
Still, motors just don't die just to die so soon as yours. One of few things happened, and that is either abuse/neglect by owner operator or assembly oversight by builder.

either way I hope you get er back on the road soon!

There is no reason why he should not stand behind his work. I mean it's not like you were 'hot rodding' it when it happened, where you?

Good Luck.

good luck. hopefully you get something worked out with him. do you think it might have been neglectful or just bad workmanship?

I was at a local pick a part this morning. I noticed every third GM truck had a GM crate motor. I wonder why these trucks were junk?

I'm curious . . .....
How do you know they were all GM crate motors?
How do you know how they were cared for?
How do you know the motors were junk vs. just the vehicle they were in?

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: New Motor Shot

For 350.00. I won't even waste my breath with the guy , buy your self another motor and rebuild it your self, if you don't know how go and buy a book on how to and at least you know it was built correctly.
Good luck.

Re: New Motor Shot

350.00 means he put in a rering kit with rods and mains and did the heads.
That amount of money doesn't leave any room for new pistons, cam, having the rods resized, boring the block or turning the crank.
It isn't usually a bad thing if the block, pistons, rods and crank are in good shape and the engine in my 71 was done that way with an 80.00 rering kit from Northern autoparts and I did the work including grinding the valves. I have about 70K on that engine now and it is pretty strong but the valve guides are a bit suspect at the moment.
