Burlap?
Has anyone used burlap before for a carpet or headliner?.
I was working on a Nissan a month or so ago... (87 nissan 300 zx... A close freind is putting in a 355 that he pulled from his nova when totaled. nifty little car) Anyway we were cleaning up the engine bay... welding up un-necessary wholes.... Had a welding blanket on the windshield... thought about doing carpet out of that... then a teacher of mine said use burlap instead cheaper then buying new welding blankets and cutting them up. So has anyone ever use burlap? If so any pics? |

Re: Burlap?
No pics, but I've used burlap as a headliner in a S-10. Original material was shredded but I removed the formed headliner, removed the fabric/foam and used 3m adhesive to glue the burlap. Stayed in place for over three years when the truck was sold. Go to a fabric store and choose from several colors including a camo pattern.

Re: Burlap?
You were a hippie? And had a VW bus? Man, that brings back memories.
I spent most of the 60's in the military and saw some nice looking ones back then. Burlap would seem kinda rough to me. At least the burlap I'm familiear with is what they make potato sacks out of. |

Re: Burlap?
Well this isn't for a nice shinny truck with a kandy paint job....
I was thinking more of a black with matte clear or well a few diffrent colors but all matte still. Steelies... More rat rod/ patina style..... Thats were the burlap came into play. |

Re: Burlap?
I'm trying to picture it...
Don't mean this in a bad way, but rat/rod/patina and burlap sho' has a "you may be a redneck" sound to it. |

Re: Burlap?
Well isn't old school hot rod rat rod more about go then show?...
Wasn't it.... build the motor make the ponies everything else is less important... just need something to get by type of thing...Whats burlap...A cheap durable material....Can take the abuse... Id rather drive something covered head to toe in rust in something that runs great hauls A$$ looks beat up and run down then some car with a 15 thousand dollar paint job multiple thousand dollar wheels... More shine then a warehouse full of mirrors...That sits on a trailer and only time it comes off is when it goes to a show. So in theory burlap is a perfect canidate i just am not sure if ill like it yet and wanted some pics. And to answer the redneck part... I will be attending The redneck rumble in Lebanon tenn this year. Great rat rod show. Heres a pic of a burlap headliner only one i could find and then a few hots from the redneck rumble i found on kill billet. hows that van for ya? |

Re: Burlap?
Now that's my kind of show!
Had an old friend that duct taped his floor board once. He said he just wanted to cover it up temporarily. Surprisingly, it didn't look all that bad. In the old days one of the clever disquises used was to stick a power house in an old beat car then cruise the city looking for guys with fancy new cars to drag. Brother made a lot of money with his old 56 Pontiac. |

Re: Burlap?
Burlap holds lots of dust and dirt and pollen etc. So if you have any allergies you'll never stop sneezing.

Wonder what it would look like as a cover on the door panels and then sprayed over with clear coat for protection? |

Re: Burlap?
I've been thinking about making a tonneau and covering it with a heavy canvas tarp, but not sure where I could find a black one. Anyone ever tried to dye a white canvas tarp to make it black/grey?
