Nobody noticed the 74 C10 in HotRod magazine?

They dropped in an LS6, Th400/GV and drove it 1800 miles so they could break out in a drag race.

Come on guys, its in a mainstream mag and nobody saw it?

Re: Nobody noticed the 74 C10 in HotRod magazine?

What did it run? More specs? I don't read magazines any more. They are nothing but ads.

Anybody have the magazine? I'm interested on how they mounted the guages.

Re: Nobody noticed the 74 C10 in HotRod magazine?

They didn't say anything about gauges, the only interior pic shows stock ones. And they used a carb setup so I'm sure they kept the stock gauges.

What specs do you want?

It ran like mid 13s, I think. I got all excited when they first posted about Hotrod doing a squarebody. You didn't miss anything.

They worded the article like it was a "budget" type build. I need a budget like they were throwing around.

I got excited too, but Hot Rod kinda disappoints me with most of what they have done in the past few years. At least they gave it a shot!

Re: Nobody noticed the 74 C10 in HotRod magazine?

heres a update hotrod did on the truck

they changed the 3.00:1 gear ratio to 5.13s

truck ran a 12.6 gusteamaded 1/4 (they where only on a 1/8 mile track)

they hooked nitruse to it and tryed to make a run side ways down the track and ran a 7.78 @98MPH in the 1/8

me persanaly it would of been funner if they went to a salvage yard and tryed to do it for as cheap as posible

You would think so being former Car Craft staff built it, but no, they had 15k to blow.
There are better trucks here that were built for less.

I lost intrest when I read they redrilled the axles and rotors to a weaker 5 on4.5 BP so they could put on aftermarket wheels that they could have ordered
with the right 5 on 5 BP in the first place.

Can't you get a lightly used 99 up Silverado 5.3 and throw on a supercharger
for less than $15,000 ?

Re: Nobody noticed the 74 C10 in HotRod magazine?

If they want to show us a budget build, do it with junkyard parts.

Find a cheap 73-87 trucks, buy a complete salvage LSx motor, and run it as is. Then add NOS, heads, cam etc and go from there.

Re: Nobody noticed the 74 C10 in HotRod magazine?

This sounds an awful lot like the build David Freiburger and Chad Reynolds did at CarJunkieTV.com last year before that online venture went belly up. I think I made a post about it back then.

Re: Nobody noticed the 74 C10 in HotRod magazine?

That sucks, you'd think with the budget they had, it would be one bad truck. I've seen a carbed LSX swapped squarebody go high 12's with a poopoo budget. Junkyard 6.0L with a baby cam.

Re: Nobody noticed the 74 C10 in HotRod magazine?

im sorry... these "budget builds" should be labeled "sponsorship regulated, major discount for putting on endorsed parts build"
because in reality we all know that a "budget build" is limited by time, personal INCOME... and of course how much grief we would want from our wifes.....

Re: Nobody noticed the 74 C10 in HotRod magazine?

Yeah, this thing is just wrong in every way.
Nothing that they have done has made a bit of sense to me. There are probably 50 trucks on this board that are better in every way on a fraction of their budget.

Hot Rod?? What a joke.

Re: Nobody noticed the 74 C10 in HotRod magazine?

Yea, I got excited about it when I first saw the headlines, then I read the article, to much money for too little results. The truck was a beater that they gave to much for to begin with. I think 1/2 of the 15k budgit is just the motor alone.

Could have been done better by just about any member of this board....
