1962 4x4 Needs a better Lift

I have 5inch blocks in the back and leaf springs in the front. I wanted to put new leafs all the way around. Hears the catch, daddy was a traveling man. I have a 62 frame and cab , but the bed is from a 66. Can anyone help me out?

Troymg welcome to the forum. That's a sharp looking truck you have there. I am going to put your post in the 4x4 forum.

While your question is suspension related, I think you will get a quicker response there.

Great looking truck and welcome to the board - you need to post more pics!

I don't know anything about those year trucks, but if you will measure your existing springs, eye to eye, that will help figure out what will work - though I'm sure the more expeirenced guys will know that without that info.

Re: 1962 4x4 Needs a better Lift

Welcome to the board

Nice GMC you have there.

If you're wanting more lift you have basically 3 options since there aren't any aftermarket lift kits for these older trucks. 1) Have your existing springs re-arched 2) Have new custom springs made......$$$$ or 3) Cut off your original spring hangers and install hangers from a '73-'87 truck so you can utilize a lift kit that is available. A variation of this would be a combination of OEM and aftermarket parts to use 52" springs up fromt and a shackle flip in the rear with 56" springs.

Sorry there isn't an easy way to lift your truck. It really depends on your personal mechanical and fabrication skills versus your budget.

BTW there are no big differences between a '62 bed and a '66 bed.

Re: 1962 4x4 Needs a better Lift

do you know if you can put the newer model spring hangers in the same spot to use a late model kit or do you have to move them i belive my rear springs on my 1963 are 51 inch and the rears in my 85 are 52 inch http://www.sky-manufacturing.com/new...ory=suspension i was thinking about using this shackle flip kit plus a lift for a 67
