Cartridge Oil Filter on 283 V8

I can still order the cartridge filters from LMC-Truck. Should I buy the screw on adaptor to run "normal" spin on filters? Any difference in oil flow? Here are some pictures. Any other cheaper place for the cartridges?

Thanks!

IMO get an adapter and use a modern filter. I don't know if they flow or filter better but I'd be willing to bet that they're easier to get.

Re: Cartridge Oil Filter on 283 V8

Last time I bought one, I got it at my local NAPA. I broke my engine in with
it's stock canister and it worked fine (I'd guess).
Pretty messy and you have zero choices concerning quality of the filter media.
I got an old adapter from my local machine shop...probably way better quality
than the help-rack crap from your box store parts house.

In a nutshell...I settled on a quality modern spin-on. NAPA Gold works for me.

i would go with the spin on. i changed a '68 327 over to a spin on filter. the only 283 i have had ,the block was not drilled & tapped to except the adapter to change it over. it must have been an early model block....

the good thing about the cartridge filters is you can take the housing and cover and have it chromed so you've got a real big noticable piece of bling in the engine compartment

Now you've scared me. That's my kind of luck and I won't know until I take it off. Then I won't be able to put it back on for some reason. Then I can't drive the truck.....!!!

Maybe I'll try the cartridge first. The PO probably hadn't changed the oil in a long long time.

As my mother used to say,"Back then, it was a great car-I never even had to change the oil!"
