Post Rigging Side lamps

I was wondering if the side lamps are supposed to blink with the signal markers? And if not, How would I hook them up to do so? I was going to wire the front ones to the parking lamps and then run a wire to the back to wire up the rear side markers. I don't want to rig them to the tail lamps cause I dont want them acting like brake lights. If I do that, what would I have to ground and where?

Will a 69-72 gauge cluster fit a 68?
Thanks guys.

Get one of those dummy lights, the one that looks like a pointed screw-driver with a light in the handle. Turn your blinkers on and poke the wires until you find the one that blinks. Hook that one to one of the side marker wires. I can't remember where the other goes without looking. (I'm at work)

Cool

For the front side markers, yes they are suppose to blink with the turn signal. They also should come on when you turn on the parking lights. The back ones no.
1. Take the park light out of the bumper and turn your blinker on for that side, and check with test light which wire is got hot feed for turn signal. Run that wire to your side marker. You will also need to find the wire for the parking lights and run it also to the side marker. There should be a small wire coming off of the side marker for the ground, are you can add it. Hope this helps.
Forgot the rear lights.
1st. Check wires with a test light and find the running light wire for the rear. Connect both back side markers to it. They don't blink with turn signals.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Not all of them were supposed to blink, just most of them. I did a poll on here and a couple other boards, and only a few of the one ton trucks ('70 and older) would blink.

I have had two trucks that blink, a 71 & 72.
Just the front ones do it,and tho I have never traced the wires out there has to be a relay that makes them work because the sidemaker comes on when the binker goes out and vice-versa

Not a relay, the ground from the side marker goes to the bright filiment wire on the front marker. When the front one is not flashing, it acts as a ground, then when the bright filimant turns on, it breaks the ground, causing the side marker lamp to turn off.

Da, I should have known that, that is the way GM has always wired "idiot" lights on alternators. The idiot light always has a positive any time the key is on. If the alternator is charging the idiot light terminal on the alt is positive and the light will not light with a positive on both sides of it. If the alternator quits charging the idiot light terminal on the alt "becomes" a ground, and the light comes on. Learn something new everyday.

To blink or not to blink? Tis the question.
On my 69 I orignally had reflectors only. I
wired into my parking lamps circuit front
and rear. No need to worry about the brake
lamps (dual filament bulb). I believe stop
and turn signals use the same filament.
