69 chevy 1-ton project
Hello, I've been lurking for a while, reading up some tech stuff and getting back into these trucks. I decided to make a post for the project I started not too long ago.
I am only 25 now, but when I was young we had a 69 1-ton truck we used on the farm, I remember riding around with my dad and thinking that it was the coolest truck because of the duals and the cab lights.. well the truck was retired and parked out back and sort of forgotten. In high school i picked up a 70 C10 stepside and learned a lot with that truck. She was pretty rusty, and due to teenage recklessness I learned how to change engines, trannys, driveshafts, learned why welding a rear diff isn't as cool as you may think.. and really ignited my passion for working on cars in general.. and I collected a lot of spare parts, dashes, heater controls, grilles, etc.. After high school, like many young kids, I had a ricer phase.. a few honda civics with painted interiors and fart cans.. which soon grew into faster hondas with swapped engines and fart cans.. and eventually to turbocharged hondas without fart cans, lol. I currently daily drive and autocross a Del Sol, which is pretty much a 2 seater civic with a targa top. turning back to the 'forgotten' chevy, I managed to pull it out of the woods and bring it up into the yard for a while to try to sell it. as it sat in the yard with noone interested I started to get the bug to get it running and back on the road. I bought an 85 crew cab dually parts truck for the front discs, and the 410, which is slightly better than the 456 haha.. Also the 1/2" bolt pattern really had to go. I moved the truck into the garage and started to try and fire it up. I put a battery in and the engine turned over just fine.. but the coil was bad. After searching around my garage for a coil I gave up and grabbed an HEI dizzy off the shelf and threw it in. replaced the fuel lines, put some fresh gas in and she fired right up! I was very suprised. pulled the wheels off and put her on jackstands to get ready for the suspension and rearend swap. The truck is going to be licensed for regular road duties, and will be used to tow/haul whatever it is needed for.. I don't have many pics, but I will be taking more and more as the project progresses. Here is the only real pic of the truck out in the sunlight that I have, this is shortly after pulling it up into the yard, and yes.. that is moss on the front of the hood, lol. here are some pics of the truck in the garage so far: here are a few pics of the crew cab teardown: here is my 'bucket' of parts.. get it? Thanks for putting up with my huge run-on sentence.. I hope to be more active on the boards now that I have a project thread. I do have a lot of knowledge of these trucks to share, hope I can help a few people out as we go! |
