Question anyone who has put autometers in dash, help!

well i'm going to start on this soon. not this week but after my next couple pay checks. a NEED a new temp gauge soon and NEED the tach. i'm going to start off with just 3 guages. big tach, small temp guage, and small fuel gauge.

i'm only doing three for right now b/c i can't afford all of them. when i buy the other three i will also get the painless harness and wire them nice, but for now i'm going to hardwire/splice the first three in.

so here are some questions.

fuel gauge - when wireing this do i have to run any new wire to the tank or can i simply tap into the old wires that went to the old fuel guage?

temp gauge - same question, can i just tapinto the existing wireing and does the temp gauge come with a new sending unit?

tach - i know this one

can those who have done it post all the pics they have of it. front, back ect.

i haven't decided if i want to completley recess them like mikes or leave the faces outside like eddies.

Ryan, can't help you on the fuel gauge but as far as the temp goes, I would run a mechanical gauge...gives you a better reading IMO. They are simple to install, just 2 wires I believe and the hard line that runs to the engine. When I did mine I ran the unit from the intake manifold next to the thermostat.

Hope this helps a little, what kind of Autometers are you getting?

Yes, you can splice onto the existing wiring. For what the colors of all the wires are, check my article. It explains it all, so I won't need to again.

Geez, when are you guys going to learn to check my site? LOL

Yup, comes with everything you need and yup, runs coolant right up to the gauge. I have a digi cam from work and will take pics for you tomorrow...but will not be able to post them till Friday.

I like mechanical guages better than elec, they may be a LITTLE harder to install but I believe they are more accurate.

I lean towards electric gauges inside the vehicle cabin. If a fitting or line lets go, it can get messy. But both styles are good.

From personal expierence I high recommend a mech. oil pressure gauge (very nice). But if you choose to use anything mech. then you better spend the money and get the steel braided line. The little plastic one sucks and will leak after time. Mine did and ruined my carpet and caused one nasty mess.

Spend the money and get the steel braided line!

eddie - get some pics of those gauges with your new digi when you get a chance. i'm leaning towards doing it your way vs. mikes just b/c of ease of installation but i have to see what it looks like
