Reattaching Window to the Channel

My passenger side window decided to remove itself from the metal channel that attaches to the regulator. The rubber channel inside the metal is toast. I have tried weatherstrip glue with no luck. Help?
P.S. It looks pretty cool without the vent

You can go to an Auto glass shop or check glass supply houses for setting tape. It's the rubber that goes and holds the glass to the frame. It is a pain to do. I talked to a glass guy today and he suggested using urethane (used to set fixed glass). He said he hasn't had any problems with it and is alot easier. Hope this helps.

Re: Reattaching Window to the Channel

Thanks for the reply. My neighbor showed me what he used to set the glass in his '32 coupe. It was some kind of urethane that dries as hard as rubber and fills a pretty large gap. I'm going to try Abbra Glass and NAPA tomorrow. We are not too far apart so we need to hook up some time. I'm still open to suggestions!

Re: Reattaching Window to the Channel

I replaced a slider with a fixed window in my 90 p/u. I believe I got the adhesive from an autobody supply. Throwing it out there in case you cant find some.

Re: Reattaching Window to the Channel

The new Classic Truck magazine has an article about putting electric windows in a 39 chevy and it made reference to using window tape to reattach to the channel. I went to Foresters Street Chrome and he sold me enough to do the window for a buck. You just fold it over the bottom of the window, hold the channel in place and pound the hell out of it with a rubber mallet. Worked like a charm. To you local guys, there is a benefit car show from 1:00 to 6:00 tomorrow next to Ihop in front of Home Depot. Maybe I'll see some of you there. Thanks for the input.

Re: Reattaching Window to the Channel

I mentioned earlier about using urethane. I was told today when I was at Super Chevy by L.C. Appling with Vintage Glass not to do it. It can cause several problems. If someone uses it and rolls the window up for the urethane to set, the track will twist when it has a load on it in the up position and will remain that way causing binding. Another reason is if the glass does break you will play hell trying to get the glass and urethane out of the track. Just thought I would pass it along. So use the setting tape like explained before.
