Removing front crossmember
I'm going to remove my front crossmember as a whole unit. Any tips or tricks??

It bolts out no problem...if real rusted gring the tops of the bolt down on the lower c part of the frame...but I bet they come out easy.
If I was doing it alone... I would not jack it up so that gravity would hold them togeather until I was ready to seperate or I would tie the frame down to the front crossmemeber out to avoid it slipping on me once the last bolt was out. pretty easy if the engine and front clip are missing. I did it last summer on the burb.
Dont have the truck jacked up too high use a floor jack to hold the cross member up while unbolting it FLOOR JACK... not 2 bottle jacks (I don't want to talk about it) a 4 wheeled apliance dolly is a good idea to drop the cross member onto, makes it easy to roll out of the way. |
