ford 9 inch swap
im thinking about a nine inch swap onto my stock trailing arms
im sure i can find a housing pretty easy i can get a center section with richmond 4.11 gears (would change to 3.73s) a mini spool and new bearings for $325 i would get new housing ends and perches i think on an episode of musclecar they used a plate that bolts where the centersection goes to show the center of the housing (since ford is offset) im looking to fit a 12 inch wide wheel im wondering where i cand find the plate and perches and would it be worth it to do this swap

Re: ford 9 inch swap
I made my own plate with a mark for the center of the pinion. All you need to do is take some measurements off of the third member. Do you have all the necessary alignment tools and fixtures to narrow a housing?
I believe CPP and Early Classic sell the perches.

Re: ford 9 inch swap
OK.......they did use an alingment tool/jig to maintain a certain amount of alignment. How do you plan to keep the housing ends in alignment with the center section?

Re: ford 9 inch swap
I have the alignment jig (the rod and the bushings shown in your link) to keep everything in line. Even with that, technically the housing should be straightened, but I've run them without straightening without issues.
You can also shorten your current 12 bolt, add different style housing ends, and install aftermarket axles, just as you can to a 9 inch. The 12 bolts will handle a lot of abuse, especially with upgraded parts. The 12 bolt has a 8.875 dia ring gear, so it's only .125 smaller than a 9 inch.
