rattle rattle rattle

Hey guys I'm new here. I just got my truck a few days ago. It's my 2nd of the 67-72 era. (had a 70 gmc long bed in high school). Anyway my tailgate rattles like crazy and I'm not sure what it is missing. It rattles up down left and right. When I lower the TG it falls down on to the roll pan before I even lower it. I have to lift up an inch or so to get it to close after opening it. Any ideas? I can take pictures if it would help.

here's a pic of the new truck.

Do you have the correct trunions (or are they worn out)? They should look like this:

If you are going to replace the bearings, make sure you go with the Titanium Pro Racing Bearings. It'll give ya atleast an extra 10 horses.

btw...I just checked my Blinker Fluid and was a little low so I topped off.

ok, I looked at the trunions that are bolted to the bed but there is nothing on the tailgate that goes in or on them... i'm guessing the tailgate is missing something??

The tailgate is shaped to accept the round end of the trunion. I'd be interested to see a picture of what you have there.... Can't see how it's possible for something to be missing from your tailgate.

Re: rattle rattle rattle

You are missing the part that bolts to the tailgate that fits into the trunions. I dont think I've seen them being reproduced.

Nothing bolts onto that area. Looks to me like someone attempted to fab up a quick-remove tailgate, and failed miserably.

I think the part on the tailgate your missing is supposed to be welded to the tailgate. IIRC

Re: rattle rattle rattle

Your tailgate looks fine.I think the trunion was welded poorly and let go.See about getting another peice from a junk tailgate.I`d drill a hole in the center and weld it there, rather than around the edges,to try not to burn the paint.
