What brakes interchange?

I have a 68 gmc SWB all manual drum. I heard local that 73 up discs fit if i use the whole spindle. Any truth to this? I am mechanically inclined and readily have these trucks in our junkyards. ANY info greatly appreciated.

Re: What brakes interchange?

it is more involved than that, but yes, you can use front end parts 71 - 87.
The best way to do it IMO is swap out the entire front crossmember. this way there is absolutly no question what is what when you go to replace a front end component.

Re: What brakes interchange?

Agreed 100%, everything is from the same year truck and there are no "custom" or "adapter" type parts involved.

Is the crossmember a bolt in deal? Or is it the deal where you have to cut the crossmember out. can i just take the whole assembly lose on each side and bolt it in my truck?

It is a bolt-in deal...2 of the bolt holes are slightly mis-aligned and require some drilling, but the rest of them are right-on.
The most difficult part of the swap is figuring out how to support the engine and the frame at the same time.
