Post Intro from a newbie

Ive been lurking for a while on this board. I own a 68 shortbed, mechanicals are pretty much done, disc brakes, everything under the hood is new crate motor etc., still has the 4 speed, its bagged front and rear, and has dropped spindles, runs steelie wheels with 275/60/15' all the way around. I just finished a 3 year project, and before that I had a 4 year project. Both of those are done now so Im bored and looking at the pickup again. I have owned the truck for 7 years, just never did much more than the mechanical stuff because I drive it daily.

The 68 is the newest vehicle I own, Im interested in aftermarket sheetmetal if you guys can give me the scoop, drivers fender, a hood and possibly bed sides instead of doing all of the dent work.

Im looking to maybe replace the back half of the frame with my own frame rails and maybe put in some late model independent rear suspension if anyone has done that.

here are the other two finished cars, not board related, but I dont have a pic of the truck on my harddrive. I also have this website if you wanna see some more. www.hotrodsbyglen.com

Welcome to "the board." Nice cars by the way, if your truck turns out as nice as those cars, I'm gonna be jealous

from what I 've heard about aftermarket sheatmetal I would stear clear.

also do you think a late model independent rear would hold up well under a truck? I guess it all depends on what you use.

hell, i'm jealous already. welcome aboard by the way. i love the insight that a rodder can offer, cuz i think they are the ultimate fabricators and thinkers. one day i hope to be able to afford to build one the way i envision. for now i'm content to be a child and lover of the muscle car era.

Welcome from Kentuckee!!! Those cars look exceptional! Is that green car a Mercury? Is it laying body or are my eyes deceiving me again? Nice work. And welcome to the board.

Welcome, from Arkansas. I really like both of your "projects". The T is awesome...I've had a thing for them for years. The Buick is, well, it's nice. Both are really clean.

As for sheet metal, Goodmark (www.goodmark.com) is supposed to be the benchmark in aftermarket sheetmetal. They have GM Reproduction trademark rights. But, Goodmark is an importer and a distributor. Many of the aftermarket parts folks have sheetmetal, and most of it appears to come from Taiwan. I bought rockers and floor pans from Kenny's, in Tulsa. It's all EDP coated. There are several vendors who are members of the board. There have been several "threads" on sheet metal, as in who to buy from, and who to avoid. Harwood has a nice fiberglass cowl-induction hood. I don't know what other body parts that they have, tho.

So, welcome to you and we all wish you the best on your old, new, project. You know what you're doing, so let us know how it is progressing.

whats the deal with that twin supercharged big block on your web site? that moter would be insane in one of our trucks let alone a 32 f*rd. do you do all of your metal work tour self? like the pinching the bodys and the wraparound dash ect... by the way love your cars

The two twin blown big blocks were pretty cool, they have two dominators on each motor and NOS for kicks. RPM Engine Design built those here in Tempe, a friend is a partner in the shop. RPM builds everything from IRL motors, pro stock, to winged outlaw stuff. They go side by side in an off shore boat......one of those famous chopper bike builder guys owns the boat.

That pickup dash is two 55 chevy dashes put together and in a 74 blazer, the ends are cut off and flipped to the oposite side, that truck is actually being painted now and is coming together nicely, it has all of the dakota digital dash stuff and the 55 chrome and bezels to go with it. The grill has custom filed and shaped brass spears which are going to the plater soon, kind of simliar to the stuff Foose is doing on his bodylines. I did the metal work including the quarter panels which are stretched like the 90-01 bodystyle, I cut an inch off the top of the doors and shaped the sheetmetal to match the bed, the window frame is cut off the door and the two pillars are welded as one. I built a motor for the truck too.

Those frames are done at the neighborhood "Clubhouse", A group of us that hang out and fab stuff for fun.
