Windshield rubber problems

The truck needed some paint-repair work and because of that the windshield had to be taken out.
Now I have a new windshield rubber (38-5912 from LMC) ordered and I use the old trim that was already on the old rubber.
The glass-shop can't get the windshield in.
They have done it before, it's not like they do it for the first time, but now it doesn't fit.
The trim doesn't stay in the rubber. Like it's the wrong one.
What could be the problem here?

I do know there is a difference in the rubber (with trim) for 67-70 and 71-72.

Cya,
Edmond

Yes, one of them has a deeper groove, but I don't know which one.

Re: Windshield rubber problems

This would be good to clarify. I will be replacing my windshield soon too.
So is it just cheap quality gaskets or is there really a grove difference.

Re: Windshield rubber problems

I believe there are two different brands/ quality levels of gaskets. When I had my window installed the glass shop said you will never save money with the cheaper gasket because it much harder to install.

Re: Windshield rubber problems

I have the same problem with a windshield rubber I bought from LMC. It was the correct gasket for that year/trim style. But the trim sticks out of the rubber. It's really bad on the sides where it sticks out about 1/4 inch. I have tried many things, but as others have said, I think it's just poor quality. Since then my windshield has cracked, and I've already got a replacement lined up.

Just need a quality gasket now. BTW, I also used LMC's rear window gasket. That one seems to be a much higher quality, and I've had no issues with it. Doesn't even leak a drop when I stick the hose right on it while washing the truck.

Are the ones from Precision Replacement Parts any good?
I'm searching for the right part number... can't find it on their website.

EDIT: Found it (I think) WCR 685A Can anyone verify that?

GMCPaul doesn't ship overseas.

What was the part number and brand?

Precision is the right one, and the windshield # is 685, so that probably is the right one

67-70 WCR 685 for DEEP CENTERED TRIM
71-72 WCR-685A for SHALLOW OFFSET TRIM
67-72 WBL-685 PLAIN BLACK

We only sell Precision cause they work. We won't sell anything else.
Don't waste your time with LMC gaskets or any sold by counterparts. You are just wasting your time and money I am not saying this cause we sell them. Its the reason we sell them

Sourkrout (john) and I can testify that Counterparts gaskets wasted 4-5 hours on our roof install... we gave up at 5AM...

Ditto on the LMC rubber and trim. Mine leaked from day one and looked like crap - stuck out of the rubber, even one of the corner pieces came off. Leaked so bad, I might as well not had a windshield at all. I ended up going with the regular gasket on the 2nd round and no problems, except that my back glass still has trim and it bugs me that they don't match!!

Re: Windshield rubber problems

Tranz Am, there definately is a difference in groove designs for trim. The 67-70 I believe uses different trim than the 71-72. Though, if you have no trim, you could get the standard one which has no groove, and that will fit all our trucks.

I might also add that, GMCPAUL has an excellent windshield install write up in the faq section. Use precision replacement parts rubber and follow pauls write up and you cant go wrong.

Re: Windshield rubber problems

Well I was lucky to find a Precision Replacement Part windshield gasket very close by where I live.
Now all I have to do is get the windshield put in.

Thanks for all the help.

Re: Windshield rubber problems

I just had two seals installed, first one didnt work, second one was GTG, safelite auto glass put it in, trim worked fine, I have the info on it but cant get to it for a few more days, if you cant find what you need let me know, Id be happy to get one like mine and ship it as long as you hooked me up just for the parts and shipping. (trying to help out, not make a profit)

Let me know
