Fitting stock steel wheels on a 4x4
I have tried every salvage yard around for a set of 15" stock steel 6 lug 4x4 rims with no luck, joesjunk has a set off a 2 wheel drive but says they wont clear the caliper on the front, [wheel will not turn when bolted down] can the caliper be ground down enough to make these fit? anyone else had any luck making these fit without using a spacer?

I may have some 6-lug disc wheels, will have to check tomorrow. I do not believe you can grind enough off the caliper to make them work. Bill

A buddy of mine put some washers behinde a set of 2 wheel drive rims going onto an 84 K5 once. I didn't like the idea, but it did the trick.

You cannot grind enough caliper to make the wheels fit. I tried it on a 79 Caprice Classic once that I used for a derby car, by the time I got the wheel to fit, 1 application of the front brakes, which were the only brakes on the car and the caliper was shot, so I derbied it with 1 front brake.....WOO HOO!!

Why won't 6-lug ralleys off 4X4 work? Or maybe you just don't like them? I like those original 4X4 plain wheels with the small stock hubcaps, but they sure are hard to find...at least in 8".

Rob, what happened to the 16's you got from me, you decide to go with 15's? Have you tried Armstrong's tire in Muscotah, Ks. They have ALOT of used rims and I'd bet with all the farmers around they surely have 15's in 6 hole. Good luck Randy

Pickmup, rallyes are what I have now and just wanted to go with the stock look on this truck.
Randy, I decided not to go with the 35x16s, I bought a set of 33s and thats why I was looking for stock 15" wheels, thanks for the tip on Armstrong tire, I called them this morning and they have a good set of 15"x6" 6 hole wheels from a mid 70s 4x4 so I am going down saturday to get them. |
