How the F* does the steering wheel go back together?
OK, so I finally got around to putting in my new used steering wheel tonight but I'm having some serious problems with the horn. When I was taking the old wheel off, the horn plunger popped out of the wheel, along with (I think) a small nut looking thing. Though with all of the crap in my floor, I'm not sure that nut looking thing came out of the wheel.
So I'm trying to fit the horn components back together and I'm running into a heck of a time. Here's how I THINK it goes back together: Spring sits in green sleeve. Plunger sits, head down, on top of spring Flat metal ring sits inside steering wheel and holds plunger on top of spring Deep metal ring fits on top of that and screws into wheel Center cap sits on top of that The problem is that the goes off non stop when I put it together like that. Am I missing a piece or am I just trying to put it together the wrong way? Tips or pictures are appreciated here...

Re: How the F* does the steering wheel go back together?
Thanks. That diagrams looks like the plunger goes head down into the sleeve, then the spring on top of that and then a button of some sort on top of that. But that doesn't make sense to me since when I took the wheel apart the plunger flew out and the spring stayed in the sleeve...so it couldn't have been put together like that.
Anyone with first hand experience with this here?

Re: How the F* does the steering wheel go back together?
Those internals are completely different than mine. I have no wire in mine.
Thanks for the link, but I'm still stuck here. Going to look at my brother's 86 today and see if it's totally different...

Re: How the F* does the steering wheel go back together?
Still curious as to how this goes back together. I found http://www.classicparts.com/1973-89-...ctinfo/27-227/ which shows a little black piece that I can't find anywhere, which means I've probably lost it. So I ordered a new contact kit but I still don't know how I'm going to put it back together once I get it.

This help? It is a teardown all the way to the tilt joint that I did on my truck.

Re: How the F* does the steering wheel go back together?
That did help. Looking at your pictures, it seems like I may be missing part of the pin/spring assembly, which is what's throwing me off. Hopefully when it gets here I'll be able to piece it back together.

Re: How the F* does the steering wheel go back together?
Help please. I swapped a '72 automatic tilt column for the '67 standard column that was in the '67 truck. The '67 wheel doesn't seem to fit. There's a gap between the turn signal hub and the wheel. Am I doing something wrong?
