Post Turn Key Vortecs

Anyone see what Advanced Adapters is offering now? Turn Key Vortec engines, check the link below.
They're a bit pricey if you ask me. They do have a standalone computer, mite be neat to see how it would do in one of our old trucks?

I could do better than that on price and get the tranny too with not a whole ton of work. It IS a nice package though. I'd be very interested to know where they get their harnesses, HP figures, engines, etc.

jmil1974, that's what I was thinking... I could get the engine, and a trany for those prices. They're HP and Torque specs are different than what Chevrolet shows on they're web page?

I don't know guys. I have been looking a lot of crate engines and yes you can buy some GM performance engines for less, but they are far from being turn key. By the time you buy a starter, belts, pulleys, alt, a/c, ps, carb, etc you will have about the same amount of dollars wrapped up in it. I'm going to look into these a little more.....

Well, I'd want to see what they mean by "turn key."

Their HP figures may be resulting from removed emissions and/or improved intake/exhaust, not to mention GM tends to underrate the Vortec/LS1 engines. Any or all of these could be the difference. They look like surprisingly accurate crank numbers to me. LS1 f-bodies have a habit of putting down crank numbers at the rear wheels. I wouldn't doubt if the rest of the GenIII V8s do too.

As far as how I'd do it: I'd go find me a wrecked, low mileage drivetrain and have harness worked and the PCM reprogrammed. Then all that'd be left are mounts and driveshaft issues, which you will have anyway. There's still VERY low mileage cars out there with these motors. That's now I'd do it. If I HAD to have new, AA's package might be a good way to go IF it included all the accessories, exhaust manifolds, harness, sensors, programming, motor mounts, etc.

I knew I would have to clarify on this one, hehe. :p

1971Stepside,
If you're really looking into the LS/Vortec motors, I have TONS of links for everything from engines to trannies to harnesses to everything else you'd need to do a GenIII swap. PM me or I can just post 'em here. I have researched this swap a LOT and would be glad to share.

thanks jmil, I will check them out. I'm kinda now leaning towards the big block, but who knows at this point. I just want to be happy with the final decision.....I'll read through those links.

Which big block?

I'd look strongly at the 5.7 LS1. Tough to beat that combo of power/light weight/MPG and you can find them fairly easily. There's several guys who swap cams and put on 5.3 heads and make 500HP at the crank.

one more, esp. if you already have an engine

ZZ502 would be nice. I have a friend that builds big blocks for off shore racing boats and he has a new 350 with Dart heads that he can build me with a supercharger (around 450hp) for about the price of a ZZ502. Of course, he recommends the big block as that is what he builds all day. So, do I want a supercharged small block or a standard big block....

Good news is I have a lot of time to decide.....saving the money....
