Burrb plywood?
Anybody ever replace the plywood in the cargo area of a burb before? How easy is it? Mine is oil stained, and if its not a huge project, would like to replace it with some nice new fragrent plywood.

We removed and replaced the plywood on my son's Burb and it is quite a project. The plywood is two pieces with most of it in one piece. Only the front right corner separates from the main floor.
If you are going to cut out the old and go back with, say two large pieces then what we did is not quite applicable. The plywood in his Burb was in excellent condition, but the front body cross brace needed work so we took the plywood out as one piece. To get the plywood out we took the body off of the frame and hung it off of two chainfalls. We removed the cross sills that were bolted to the plywood and removed the large quantity of carriage head bolts that hold it in place. The spare tire holder had to be removed, also. The board was removed and replaced through the bottom. While we had the board out, we did all the necessary repairs to the sheet metal. We also painted the board completely, which appears to be a very good grade of marine plywood. Jim |

Has anyone ever replaced the plywood with steel? Like get and old bed or something and put it down and weld or bolt in place.

okay, I guess I'll just put a mat down for now. Thanks for the warning. You are right, the plywood is still very solid after 35 years, just a little oil stained. You'd think that a wood piece might be easier to replace. Thanks y'all.

You try getting the dish soap and a scrub brush?
The bed in my old Longhorn got oil soaked when a 5 gallon jug split open, and then it sat in the Tx summer sun for about 8 hrs before I was able to do anything. A stiff brush, a bucket of VERY soapy water, and a trip to the coin op car wash got her nice and clean. |
