manual to power steering!
i have a 71 c10 with a v8.. and i would like to know what parts i need to do this swap?

reman steering box should be readily available from the local parts store
reman power steering pump // same as above mounting brackets this site, or vendors selling truck parts power steering hoses same as above pulleys site vendors fluid a few hours work, and then you can steer your truck with 2 fingers !! |

I agree.
Look in the parts section. Board members, like Teeitup, usually have trucks that they "part out" on a regular basis. They should be able to hook you up with everything you need.

hardest part is finding pulley's that all line up. Nice if you can pull it from a donaor truck, get all brackets and pulley's together.

Like msgross said, the biggest pain is all the pulleys for the accessories - if you have singles on the balancer and waterpump the easiest is to get everything off the same engine for your change or you will have a never ending search for the pulleys that all line up. When I changed mine I used a PS box off a 79 truck - had a quicker steering ratio that was quite noticable from the stock 68 box. I think the 78 and newer have the quicker ratio, if you use one from a 1980 or newer that is when you find more metric used - the hoses are different also o-ring style - the stock application hoses for my 68 fit the 79 box on mine along with the rag joint and pitman arm. I got my box from pick a part in Phx for $20 and needed a $7 seal kit from NAPA.

I've been wondering about this as well. I have a 93 burb that I am going to be pulling the engine and all kinds of stuff off of and was wondering if I could use the steering box and pump from the 93 to go onto my 72, Along with the brake booster master cylinder setup.

If it were a 91 you would be in luck. That's the same set up as 73-87 trucks. Unfortunately in 92 everything changed to the new platform. I don't think any of it will be a "direct" swap.

You should add a pitman arm and rag joint for power steering setups to the list of parts you'll need--splines are different in most cases. Both are available through regular maintenance sources.
I've been planning to do this myself "down the road sometime," and looking for alternatives to buying a reman or resto box--but everything else I run into used later is for bolting to the inside of the frame rail or something else that involves serious downtime. I'm trying to learn more about T-bird racks before I get that far, though.
