Speaker grille in Blazers and Jimmy's

The 72 Jimmy I just bought has the speaker grille in the dash. If Blazers/Jimmys did not have a radio originally, were they missing the grille? I have seen Blazers with no grille opening in the top of the dash.

My 70 jimmy has an original AM radio and the speaker mounted below the dash. I've seen them both ways.

The majority of Blazers and Jimmys did not have the speaker hole in the dash. A lot of '72s seem to have it. I think they just finished out production of trucks and Blazers with one type of dash in '72.

I have seem them both ways but have found that there seems to be no rhyme or reason for having/not having them... My first 70 2WD had one.. most did not..
All 6 of the Blazers I currently own do not have it... go figure..

Re: Speaker grille in Blazers and Jimmy's

I have heard, haven't seen in person, that some blazers/jimmies had a speaker in the rear passenger side cargo panel. The reasoning for this is the factory a/c equipped blazers didn't have room for the speaker below the dash. I have heard this from some of the old guys in my area, but i'm not sure its true. Anybody now if this is correct? My late production 72 blazer has a/c and a speaker in the dash. I have seen a couple others without speakers in the the dash, but all of them were missiong their cargo panels.

Seem em both ways in the dash area but I've never seen or heard of them ever putting a 'factory' speaker in the side panels.

A speaker under the dash was fairly common though.
