how to remove front clip on 66 C10

If any one can help me, my question is this.

To remove the front clip of my 66 Chevy truck, will I have to take of piece by piece meaning one fender off then the other then the bumper etc.. or can I take it off all in one Piece and if so, will it be hard to put back on and what I mean is will it be hard to line it up kind of like when you take off a door? I have never done it and don’t want to bite off more then I can chew. Thank you all in advance. Great Forum I always enjoy seeing all the nice trucks and the hard work that is put in to them, there are a lot of talented people and I am amazed how creative they can be, Keep up the good work.

first off find your self a assembly manual and study it, get some "P-B BLASTER" this will help, GO SLOW!! it will pay off in the long run. If you can't get your book now go to the library, people donate manuals and you may find what you need, bring a few bucks with you because you can't check these books out they are for "referance only" so you will have to copy the pages you need. LOOK before you reach in someplace you can't see you don't need any "little nastys" biteing you! have fun

You can pull the whole thing off in one piece including the hood and even the radiator, but usually its best to do some dissassembly. I would suggest removing the hood, bumper, radiator, then disconnect wiring at the firewall for lights, remove the upper fenders(the ones behind the hood and in front of the door) then unbolt the rear fender bolts, the rear inner fender bolts, and the radiator support mounting pad bolts. You should be able to lift it off in one piece.

It helps to have a friend or two help you. Also make sure you've had a tetanus shot within the last few years if there's alot of rust. That or wear gloves.

Right around the corner so if you need an extra set of hands (& everything is ready to move) give a shout.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Cant stress enough the wearing of thick gloves. Touching my sheet metal was like handling samari swords blind folded.

Never knew what you would find up inside.

Re: how to remove front clip on 66 C10

This thread inspired me to get off my butt and pull the clip from my parts truck today. By far the nastiest part were those square-headed radiator support panel bolts pictured - got out the big (engineer's!) hammer for those.

If I remember correctly. 6 or 8 bolts behind the grill support. Look in the wheel wells and you should see them unless they are covered with 50 years of mud and grime.

Bringing this old thread up....

So to remove this clip, u take off the 4 bolts to the firewall. The cowl. The two top bolts on the fender n 1 on the bottom. Then the 2 for the radiator support. Take those bolts completely off n with 3 ppl should come off?

You would need to take off your radiator hoses, wiring from the cowl and hood unless you have enough horse power to pull all of it at once.
