Kickdown cable help

Quick question. I'm trying to install a kickdown cable on a TH350 and I can't get the bolt to stay seated on the tranny. It doesn't look stripped, but I just can't get the stinkin thing in there! Does anyone know what I could be doing wrong?

Unless someone has a better idea I'm getting a new bolt tomorrow that's just a tad bit longer than this one and I'll just put washers on if its too big. Is that a good solution or no?

There should be a o-ring that goes on the cable,

See the top threads on the bolt. The stuff that's filling them is aluminum. Threads from the transmission?

Will the bolt tighten without the kickdown cable tab in place?

I think a longer bolt and washers might be a good answer if the first part of the threads is missing.

On the part that goes down into the transmission? OK I'll be sure one gets on there, but does that help me get the bolt on is that just to be sure the tranny fluid doesn't leak out?

I was wondering if those were threads. I can't see to be sure, but that would make perfect sense if that were the case. The bolt does slide down a bit without having to align the threads.

It does tighten up without the cable tab in place.
