Spicer Hubs

I've got the blue spicer hubs on my 72 K-20, the previous owner had both of them sitting in the cab in a coffee can, totally disassembled. Anyone have a good exploded drawing of both sides?

Re: Spicer Hubs

Billhilly,
Thank you very much. That was perfect, just what I'd been searching for.
I didn't have much luck googling it earlier. I did get a nice recipe for spice cookies with blue sprinkles though.

Re: Spicer Hubs

Billhilly,
I gotta tell ya, those cookies weren't bad. But I think I'll stick to powdercoating in that oven!!
I printed that whole manual out, on good paper. I'm going to be keeping that one awhile.

Re: Spicer Hubs

D.PASSMORE,
Thanks for that picture. I see you have the blue and yellow actuating knobs, if you see another set of good blue ones let me know. Mine are in pretty good shape overall. I got the whole rolling chassis out in Canby awhile back.

Where can I get two of the plated outside rings that are as pretty as those in the pic?

Re: Spicer Hubs

You can't...... his are NOS, and they aren't easy to locate. You will need to get yours replated if you want them really nice. Trevor

Mine are bashed and scraped, plating them wouldn't be pretty. If anybody knows of a NOS set I'd buy them.

cjthor, they aren't the best hubs out there. Thats why the design was changed in the mid late 70's to an internal locking design. These hubs are external design.

Re: Spicer Hubs

Cobinder, I managed to find a pair of Ferd ones last year. Brand new. Can't help with another set, but they are/were out there.
D.PASSMORE, looks like a great pile of bits there. Is the 'inner clutch gear' (red arrow) available somewhere online, or was that all NOS? I have one that has been broken, then repaired. A spare might be a good idea. What about the other two parts (blue arrows)?

Bill.

Re: Spicer Hubs

All of David's setup here was all NOS stuff. Last time he had the whole setup for sale, I believe he was asking $600. A really fair deal on all of the parts you get. The chrome knobs and blue centers in good shape I have seen sell for as high as $400 on ebay. All the spicer stuff is getting harder to come by. You can still find the Ford (Red) knobs NOS but the blue and yellow are almost non existent anymore. There was a site though, Billhilly, that did have some hub parts that were for old spicer units. My cpu crashed since I saved the site years back, so I can't help ya out with it, but you might be able to find a few items for these still. Trevor

Yes,they are very good quality.Good enough that most have lasted 40 years +/-.They are as good as or better than anything the factory has done since.GM efed up with going to full-time and most trucks were converted back to part-time with manual hubs.then, they went to automatic locking hubs (external) which have proven to be not as stout as manuals. So,it`s back to manual locking external hubs again. The reason you see Warn hubs installed so much is because they are to the aftermarket what spicer was to the factory. They are the big rime producer o the product. The later factory hubs were made by Warn.Warn came along with l/o hubs to be installed on all the early 4wds that came with no l/o option and grew from there.Jees were their prime market for many many years.

Re: Spicer Hubs

Okay, the information on the hubs was awesome. New question.... Anyone know where I can find similar information on the Eaton HO52 rear?
