LS Guys need quick help
Ok I was not planning on going this route at all but just had a deal thrown at me that may be too good to pass up. I have an option for a 5.3 out of a 05 silvarado with 18k on it and the engine is complete with everything for $500. The question is I had been building a 383 for my truck will the th350 I have work on this engine as well as can i make the new exaust system for the 350 work. This engine is susposed to be drive by wire and cable driven as well is that true? Let me know you guys opinions the 383 just came beck fron the machine shop and just needs assembled so I can recoop some monwy on all the parts just trying to figure out if it would be better to just move forward or change directions. Unfortunately money is starting to get real tight on this build.

Re: LS Guys need quick help
I initially wanted to go that route, but did some trade out work and got some good deals on parts and I ended up with my 383. Love the power and sound, but I wish I would've gone the LSx route. If you are going to use your truck as a driver, it would be a no brainer for me......hard to beat the power and economy you get out of these late model motors, not to mention how many more miles they will last when compared to a conventional carbed small block.

The TH350 will work. You may have to have a spacer for the flexplate (I can't remember...do some research) but I Know it can be made to work fairly easily.
That's a great deal on a great engine! |

It whould be drive by wire. the 05 computer does not support drive by cable. to make it drive by cable you whould need throttle body (99-02 truck) intake manifold (there is no threaded inserts in your manifold, ive heard of people putting inserts in) computer (99-02 drive by cable, all drive by cable truck computers are EGR equipped that will need to be burned out by a programmer) TPS & IAC connecters, and you have to modify your harness (alot) or buy a earlier harness |

Re: LS Guys need quick help
Now if I were to get the newer style gas pedal I could use that instead of my cable driven pedal?

yes, but you also need the TAC box (a box that connects between the gas pedal and ECM). I believe this is the same box that you would hook up your cruise control lever to to have CC I'm planning on working on my wiring here in a few weeks. |

Re: LS Guys need quick help
Once you've tried an LS motor, you'll never go back. Drive by wire is the only way to go. Makes cruise control sooo easy.

Re: LS Guys need quick help
Cruise contol is easy on both systems. drive by wire has its draw backs, touchy throttle, cant use a 700r4 (throttle valve cable), Th350 kickdown cable, micro switches (nitrous), cant throttle the engine from under the hood.
