I was just looking at my 1970 Restoration package from gm and it shows black being the two tone colour for white and yellow. Does this mean you could get a yellow or white truck with a black top? Or any colour with a black top? I have a picture here of a yellow 68 with a Black grill... I figure the reason for a white top is to keep the cab cool but up here in Canada I don’t care about that as much lol. Any pictures would be awesome. I’m thinking about running yellow/black on my 72 K20. Thanks

Don't know, never seen a black top but yellow and black will make it look like a bumble bee.

I have never seen a black or yellow top. But a yellow truck with a couple of black stripes on the hood and top like the Camaro would look good.

Forgot to add: In those days, I suppose you could order whatever you wanted. Just have to pay a little extra. A lot of the white tops were actually painted at the dealer.

I do not have pic available, but one of my trucks is hugger orange with a black top. It is listed that way on the SPID.

Black isn`t listed as an accent color in the dealer data books.But,I have seen some ordered that way.All I`ve seen are hugger orange/red orange and just the top was accent.There were vinyl tops available through the dealer accessory program.

This past summer I saw a 70 C10 in the junkyard that was hugge orange with a black roof and it was listed that way on the spid. Unitl then I always thought you could only get white roofs.

You could get a black painted top. Like Tim said above, the only ones I have seen are black just on the tops. I have seen hugger orange/red ones, the light green ones, and the light yellow (not ochre) with black tops. You could also get just about any color combination that I am aware of. I have seen light yellow with green roof trucks etc. Also, like Tim said above, there was a dealer installed vinyl top you could get. A member (JoesJunk) has a truck with this style roof. It is more of a textured paint on the roof as compared to a normal vinyl top. Trevor

Great info guys! Thanks. I agree with mclairmo I think yellow / black would look a bumble bee. I just want to have something different… just not too different lol. I think now I will consider red with a black top. Any pictures guys? Would love to see them.

the worst color combo I have seen was a red primarey color, with a yellow roof and middle on the sides.
Looked like total crap.
You could get any color as a secondary, but they would not do it unless it was ordered.
the typical one was obviously white secondary. However, as mentioned above, the 2 tone drk green/light green... orange with black, and white with a pale yellow secondary.
While none of those combos were common, they were not real real uncommon.
The vinal top, was basicly undercoating spreayed onto the cab roof. According to the dealers notes i have here, black or white was it on color selection.

When you say Orange your referring to the colour that’s similar to hugger orange? My resto package has a color listed as Red Orange as well as Orange and Red (flame red) on their own.
Yea, no I don’t want a vinyl top, our Camaro had one when we got it and I thought it was fugly

Red Orange and Hugger Orange are the same.The fleet orange color was Omaha Orange and was also offered as Tangiers Orange.That`s the pumpkin orange like Allied Van Lines or Asplundt Tree Service.

I had a 72 Blazer with crimson red on the spid. It was original paint and anything but red. More of an orange red. It has nothing to do with the black roof subject, but there was talk of colors and I have not seen another crimson truck.

Also, was thinking of a vinyl roof on a Blazer, anyone ever seen it done before? Just curious.

My brother in law bought a orange truck with a black top....didn't look so good in my opinion. Reminded me of a pumpkin.

The 1972 GMC Sierra i just purchased has a code "565 black/red orange" on the SPID...the seats and trim are black...does this code mean that the top was originally "black"?
