That's a great looking truck. Any guesses as to what his reserve is?

I would like to see how he converted it to 4 wheel drive. I also wonder if it has a t-400 instead of a t-350 trans. WES

Re: Very nice Longhorn 4x4 on fleebay

His ad says he has a new TCI 400TH trans. I would also like to know on the conversion, but i'm guessing he retained the longhorn's frame and just used 4wd hangers. I'm surprised he didn't add in the ad that they never built that truck. No 4x4 Longhorns ever, so that is just one of a few that have been converted to 4x4.

Another question I have, did Longhorns have that Custom Camper emblem on them? Or was that an add on as well?

Also he claims the truck has the cheyanne trim package but the interior is not correct for a cheyanne. But it is a very nice truck.

I agree this is a very nice looking truck. Question...why would the extra 6" in the box make for smoother ride? Is this perception or reality?

Yes,longer wheelbase means smoother ride,because...

That`s a real phantom GM truck. That would be the top dog,if they made them. That truck`s a Custom Deluxe,I believe.the only thing better would be a K/30 and a Detroit.I expect the reserve to be much higher on this.

Thanks for your info special-K...for some reason I was thinking only the bed was extended and not the wheel base.

If the work on the conversion was done correctly, it would be a hell of a ride! The drivetrain is awesome: 454, turbo 400, gear vendors, 4 wheel drive... As Butthead would say, "There is none higher!!"

Re: Very nice Longhorn 4x4 on fleebay

I didn't catch the t-400 in his add. The t-400 pushes the big block (witch GM didn't offer in the 4X4s either) move the engine forward enough so that the valve covers and HEI do not touch the firewall. I think it a great truck, I was going to build one simeler to it. I have a streched 72 3/4ton 4x4 frame in my shop. Anyway, cool truck. I wouldn't mind having it in my driveway too!! WES

Dieselwrencher, "Another question I have, did Longhorns have that Custom Camper emblem on them? Or was that an add on as well?"

That Custom Camper emblem is from a GMC truck, I believe? I changed my 68 chevy truck passenger door for a GMC 68 truck door and that badge was on the GMC door.

Re: Very nice Longhorn 4x4 on fleebay

Very nice. I'd love to have it. Just a few changes here & there is all I would want to do to it.

I can see in one pic that it does look like the Longhorn frame. The rear leaf spring front hanger puts the spring eye above the lower lip of the frame. 4x4 hangers put the eye below the lip, providing a higher ride height. About the only thing this truck is missing to make it a "K30 Longhorn" is the dana 60 front.

As far as I know, they never built any K30's in 67-72. Is this correct?

Re: Very nice Longhorn 4x4 on fleebay

None until, I think- 1976. And someone correct me if I'm wrong, those were all duallys thru 1980. No single wheel K30 or big block 4x4's period until 1981.

The only K-30s were NAPCO 4x4s. The Custom Camper emblems could have been on it also. WES

Re: Very nice Longhorn 4x4 on fleebay

I asked him on ebay and he said the conversion was done by a company in the early 70's by a company that did them. I am also trying to get pics from him. This is how I would like my truck to be except the wrong fuel. LOL

custom camper badges may be real, it was just an small option package avalible.
is a good looking truck, but a few things a little misleading. He should come rigght out and say it is a 4X4 conversion, and he claims it is the same as a cheyeane, but it isn't... very cool truck though.

I wondered if it was a Napco, but I don`t think it is.i think that`s a Dana axle.By the`70s there were the Quadra-Vans and maybe it was a van conversion company that did it.Could also be a company like Quigley.
