Re: 8 lug crew cab 1 ton

Upper ball joints are factory rivited in. Replacements are bolted in. 3/4 ton and 1 ton ball joints are the same. 1/2 ton ball joints are a smaller diameter but have the same bolt pattern as the 3/4 & 1 tons so they can easily be switched out.

The lower ball joints are pressed in and are of different diameters where they mount into the lower control arms. Again, 3/4 & 1 ton lower ball joints are the same but the lowers are smaller so you would have to swap out the following parts....
UPPER BALL JOINTS
SPLINDLES
LOWER CONTROL ARMS W/BALL JOINTS
SPRINGS

Re: 8 lug crew cab 1 ton

ECE (Early Classic Enterprises) sells a "conversion" 2.5" drop spindle that will use the 1/2 ton rotors and calipers off your 'burb.
They list them as C20 to C10 conversion spindles,... but the C20 balljoints are the same as the C30 balljoints,... so everything will bolt onto your original ball joints and tie rod ends.
No need to swap a-arms or anything else,... other than from the spindles out.

All years.

http://www.earlyclassic.com/catalog.aspx

QUOTE from ECE:

Looking to convert your ¾ ton Truck to ½ ton front suspension? We are proud to introduce the only C-20 to C-10 2½" Drop Spindles available on the market. (disc brakes required).
Over the years, we’ve had many customers with C-20 8-lug Trucks that would like to convert over to the better riding C-10 suspension and change their wheels to either a 5-lug or 6-lug bolt pattern. These new Conversion Spindles allow you to upgrade to C-10 front disc brakes on the ’60-’70 model Trucks, and give you the option of 2½" front Drop Spindles for the same price without having to change your tie rods and ball joints.
Several options are available to change the rear suspension and axle as well, and our technical support staff is more than happy to explain the different methods and choices available for each Truck year and model. Give us a call, we’re here to help

Re: 8 lug crew cab 1 ton

No reason why you can't do it that way. Pull the A-arms along with shafts, or swap the entire crossmember assembly.

Re: 8 lug crew cab 1 ton

Don't pull the crossmember unless you want to mess with the engine mounts.
All you need to do is change everything from the a-arms out.
I suggested spindles for ease,... not money reasons.
Since you want to use all of your parts, without spending any cash,... leave your original crossmember, and change everything else.

Re: 8 lug crew cab 1 ton

I belive that the 1/2T rear wont bolt in the place of the 1T because of the rear spring mounts?

on the crew cabs the springs are wider then that of a std cab 1/2T (or the other way around) so I dont know if that holds true for the 1T std cab trucks

you may need to swap spring mounts
