I did my 78 ElCamino a few years ago, wasnt a big deal at all.. Just a short trip to the salvage yard and 1 alarm system.
I used GM starter soleniods, Plunger and a standard ignition coil mounting bracket. Bolt the bracket inside the door, slide the soleniod in(leave it loose) then take the old rod that went to the door handle and attach it to the plunger. Adjust the soleniod were you need it. Next was to unplug the power locks and use this wiring for the soleniods. Here's were the trick part comes in... The alarm system was designed to unlock the drivers side with one click, both door locks with 2 clicks. So all of that worked great when it came time to open the doors.. click click and your in. I also took a old universal ignition switch and mounted it in the bed in case of emergencies (it opened both doors too). In each door I mounted 1 very strong, very short spring to push the door open after clicking. O and since the old power lock system was used, this is how you got out too. or if you really wanted to use the handle inside, you could. The only trouble I had was during the winter, nothing a bucket of water wouldnt cure though... heck any door will freez up given the chance. I'd do it again if I had the right vehicle. ------------------ Pictures and more... piston@zkast.com '71 LWB 350/350T, PS/PB Special options? Yes, RUST... AUTOLOC, makes the best kit on the market IMO, and it comes with 38# solonoids plenty to open these old doors, and you can find the kits for around $145. I put this kit on over 3 1/2 years ago and no problems. Put the poppers down in the lower corner of the door. And shaving your doors then leaving a key hole? shaving is kinda pointless then. If you do do that at least move the key hole way down to the bottom of the door. JMO every body is different

COOL!!! They make a great kit. But you don't need anything stronger than 35-38#, the rest is overkill. The kit is straight forward. I installed both doors and all wiring in about 1.5hrs. pretty easy. Good luck
