Symptoms of High Fuel Pressure w/ Edelbrock Carb
Hello. I have a sneaking suspicion that I have high fuel pressure from my fuel pump to my Edelbrock 1406 Carb. I'm going to pick up a fuel pressure gauge and install it tomorrow, but I'm curious about the symptoms that this can cause. I currently have a no-name fuel pump.

Sometimes she starts to load up a bit when idling for an extended period of time. I've been doing some research and read in several places that Edelbrock carbs don't like more than 6 psi. It's mechanical from what I can tell. I'm not very well versed in fuel pumps.

Re: Symptoms of High Fuel Pressure w/ Edelbrock Carb
I had an edelbrock carb on my truck that would always stumble after the engine was warm and flood after you would shut it of and try to restart it. I found out the carb was getting to hot and boiling the fuel. I fixed it with a carb spacer. You can also block off the exhaust passage in the intake if that is the problem. Not sure if this would be the problem but something to check out.

Yeah. I've been wondering if I'm boiling the fuel. Sometimes it's a hard start after she's up to operating temperature. The PO didn't use a thermostat, but I installed one. Since then, I've been noticing this problem. On the topic of carb spacers, how difficult are they to install? I'm assuming that I'll need to re-time and re-set the AF mixture afterwards.

Mine was a bolt on and go. There shouldn't be a need to reset timing or mixture. About the only problem I could think of would be hood clearance, but usually not any problem on our trucks. I got my spacer on ebay really cheap.

Gotcha. Did you have to disconnect everything, or were you able to just lift it up, slip the spacer/gasket in, and bolt everything back down.

Re: Symptoms of High Fuel Pressure w/ Edelbrock Carb
Your new spacer should come with longer studs you will have to thread into the intake so it would be easier if you take the carb all the way off. depending on the fuel line set up you have you may have enough slack to set the carb aside to do this without disconnecting the line. You will also need 2 carb gaskets, one between the carb and spacer and the other between the spacer and intake. I went with a 1 inch spacer that worked great, just check hood clearance. I have a 350 with a Performer RPM intake (fairly tall), a holley carb, 4 in tall air cleaner and I still have 2 inches of hood clearance.

Incidentally, how big of a spacer did you get?

I used a 1 inch spacer and I think it was about $12 on ebay the seller was abad71camaro, it came with studs and hardware. Here is a link to another auction for what I have. I am pretty sure this would fit any square bore carb like the edelbrock and holleys.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1-Phe...s#ht_564wt_941
