drive shaft help

Hello back with a drive shaft problem i did some research and this is what i came up with my truck has a 6 inch lift on it and i had one heck of a noise coming from the front end so i took the front drive shaft out and everything was shot and the driveshaft seem to be alittle short in length!! so i was talking to some guys and they said i could buy one and have it stretched to fit or i could buy one that fits it they were saying i needed about a 18inch to a 20inch driveshaft! how do i measure a driveshaft so i know for sure on how long of a shaft i need and what are the pros and cons on streching a drive shaft thanks again for listening

the first thing to do is find a driveline shop that you plan to deal. some places want measurements from different spots. second they dont stretch a driveshaft. what will be done is cut the yokes off both ends and replace the tubing with a longer piece and weld it back together.you can do a google search and find some places that can build a driveshaft but i like to deal locally for this kind of stuff makes it a lot easier to deal with in the off chance theres a problem.grab the yellow pages and find a place close by and call and ask where they want you to measure from

ok here we go i found a driveline shop Marshall Ruby & Sons

301-689-9238 i called a place called global trucking outfiters and they refered me to them because this is where they send all there trucks with lifts and ect so anyway i called the guy to see how much it would be to get a front drive shaft done the way its suppose to he said 130.00 in labor and then i asked him how to measure and he lost me fast lol he said slide the yoke out about half an inch and then measure from there to the center of something im going to try to look at some liture on this today or it will bug me any ideas on what he is talking about

Your front shaft should look like this

So you cannot push the yoke into the transfer case. I'm not sure what needs to be done, but this page might help.

you could always run the truck up to them and have them measure it for ya. did that price include balancing and u joints? if so thats a pretty good price.

yes it did
the truck wont run without a drive shaft though will it i already have the drive shft out of it

it shouldnt be an issue.so long as its a bolt on driveshaft and not a yoke into the transfer case. im almost 100% sure its just a bolt on. and you should not have an issue just pulling the front driveshaft and driving down there
