Got the donor truck!!

Well, my buddy and I finally went to pickup the donor truck this weekend. It's a 1978 Chevy 1/2 ton LWB Custom Deluxe. There is no serious rust, just some surface rust. The body is straight, no dents at all!. The cab is totally rust free!

Here's the link for some pictures. I'm going to get some under-the-hood pics later today and will add them to the page.

http://www.shelbournes.net/trucksite/donor_truck.htm

Oh, and here are the pics of my rust. http://www.shelbournes.net/trucksite/rusty_pics.htm

For anyone that doesn't know, I got this truck to swap the cab onto mine. My floor boards, cab pillars, doors, front fenders, and cab corners are rusted to the point it's not worth fixing. Along with the cab I will also be taking the front fenders, dash cluster, glove box, doors, and front bumper (not shown in pictures) off of the donor to put on mine. This truck is a non-ac truck like mine so some of the heater components may be salvaged too.

My buddy is keeping this truck at his place and will also be taking some parts. We got this truck from a friend of his for FREE! That's the best part about it. Not sure if we'll be parting out what we don't use but will definitely post here if we do.

I'm excited but boy, do I have my work ahead of me now!!!

Eddie, I like your "club" comment...especially since the engine is seized!

It's funny, when we got there I saw that old rusty club on the wheel and laughed!

I'm not sure if my buddy is going to use the bed or not, but if he doesn't I'll keep you in mind! It will be a slow process though, I can tell you that.

I laughed at that too! The guy went silver paint crazy! Did you notice that the door handles are silver? He didn't worry with masking, he just sprayed the handle and a big spot around it!

That's my buddy's 'burb. That's what we used to tow the truck back. It's a '75 4wd with 33s (I think) and a slight lift. He told me that if he ever finds a blazer that he likes, he's going to sell it. He's a big 4by nut.

Matt, thanks for the offer! We may give you a call when we're ready to take that cab off! That should be fun. Sorry I couldn't make it by this weekend but as you can tell I was pretty busy. I'm wanting to swap those driveshafts out and fix the yoke so I don't have to back into every parking spot to keep from leaking everywhere.

Also, I just added some more pics of the truck. They're mostly engine pics. Not much to look at. We think it threw a rod. There's a nice hole in the oil pan.

Nice donor truck for sure Scott. Much easier to see them there than on the camera Let me know when and I'll hopefully be able to help you with the swap.
