the conversion to 5 lug should be the same process as doing a 1/2 ton.

Re: Lowering a 3/4 ton or swap suspension to 1/2 ton

A 3/4 ton can be lowered, but before you get carried away with doing it on your '66, drive it some at highway speeds. Most 3/4 tons in this era have pretty low geared rear ends and consequently the engine turns higher rpms at higher speeds. That is not the best for fuel economy or engine longevity. Another thing to consider is what you want to run for wheels. You may not be able to find the wheels you want in an 8 lug style.

I would suggest gathering the parts to do an upgrade to front discs at the very least whether it be in a 5 lug or 8 lug style.

Re: Lowering a 3/4 ton or swap suspension to 1/2 ton

Your 62 has torsion bar front suspension. Pretty easy to re-adjust and lower. The rear can be changed out with half ton coils.
If you are building a cruiser and you want 1/2 ton suspension, I would suggest swapping out the front crossmember to a coil spring front end with dropped spindles.
The rear can be swapped easliy for a coil sprung half ton rear axle, with 1/2 ton or lowering springs.
If you want a truck and keep it 3/4 ton you can lower it buy using 1/2 ton coils. To keep the RPM's managible you could install an overdrive transmission.
