LFD's upper door seal idea!

Ok so we all have out pet peeves and one of mine is wind noise when I am driving my truck. So for some time now I have been looking into ways to quiet things down and I have found (like a lot of you have I'm sure) that with our truck doors set so they line up with the body correct they still don't seal the best. Most people say well it's just an old truck what do you expect! Well what I expect is to find a better way that works and is an easy fix. In the past I have gone in and re-worked the inner jambs of the doors to allow a better fit but it is still a gamble to get it just right by adding metal to the steps in the jam to put just enough psi in the right areas but not too much so it causes the doors to shut hard or the alignment to be pushed out. I have also tried different door seals from different years and models with some success but I think I finally got it!

I have been dealing with different rubber company's over the years for different builds and finally found some profiles that worked real well and are self adhered so install is a 10 minute job. So now the only wind noise I have is the slight sound as the wind travels over the vent windows.

So basically what I noticed is the main wind noise is coming from the wind hitting the front edge of the window jamb and the rear edge where the drip rail comes down. The wind hits these areas and is forced into the jamb were it blows past or into the door seal. I have also noticed on all the newer cars on the market they all have a double door seal. The main one goes all the way around the door like our trucks have but the second one is just around the window jamb area. So this got me looking into different ways to deal with this and here it is.

With just the right profile of seals I have installed one on the door and a different profile on the jamb so they seal up the gaps and add a second line of defense to help minimize or eliminate the wind noise in this area.

So my question to all of you is this something you would like to see in a simple kit with the right profiles and pre cut to do both doors? For the profiles and density of the seals I bought it was around $85 because when you buy it is small quantities the price is much more per foot. So what I am thinking about doing is contacting the manufacturer of this certain brand of seal and see if I can buy in bulk through my business license. I would hope to be able to get it down to about $65 per kit (enough for two doors) shipped.

I personally think it has a nice factory newer car look and at 75 mph it sure made things quiet and I have a lot of money in sound mat and zero rattles in my truck so it easy to hear the difference!

is it self adhevsive ?? if so it sounds like a no brainer to me 55 for a more quite ride, what brand door seals have you found work best and what to glue them on with ??

Sorry I missed the second half of your question.
I bought mine from ECE and they are the standard ones for a 67-72. I also liked how easy the 73 and later one's just push on but they were just a bit to large and you had to really slam the doors and still had wind noise.

I have tried several different kinds of weather stripping adhesive but I found the yellow 3M works the best. It is a contact type of cement and holds great. I recently tried their Black version thinking it would hide any over run or the glue but it did not hold for more than 203 months before it just started letting go from the rubber.

I would be interested when the time comes for new door seals and I like the $65.00 price over the $85.00. If you find out the manufacturer isn't willing to work with you, could you post where you got them? I would like a good seal as well. both sets, please

Look's to be 2 pc per door Install, So that would be a Total of 4 Strips per Kit, If So , I think the Price point is Right on................

This kit would just be the 4 piece kit that does the upper door and jamb. I believe the dealer who I got this from my offer the factory door seal but you can get that from several of the site venders already.
Yes it is a peal and stick (very good adhesive) and it is just the right size to fit the contours of the window rail around the door and the jamb. I have been looking and trying different set ups since before LowBuck was painted so it so it has not been a simple thing to get it just right. I have some more testing to do but things look good so far.

Per 2 door kit but I will have a burb kit as well if it works out, for a 50% in crease (1/2 as much more) unless you are Frizzle then 100% (4drs)

We sell all kinds of auto moulding styles in bulk if interested in 50 or 100 for rolls. Just in case your mfg. does not want to knock the price down low enough. Pm us for wholesale price if you want to

You know, now that I look at your pic with the piece of weatherstripping on the seat, I think we have that at work. If it is the same stuff, we buy it in rediculously huge quantities. I'll grab a piece tomorrow so you can see if it is the same stuff. If it is, I might be able to get it crazy cheap!

Kevin, this is a great idea.
Years ago, I tried a number of different profiles to make that '2nd seal' around the door like you did. I also got the idea from newer vehicles, they almost all have 2 sets of weather stripping.

I think a kit with the right length and dimensions would be a great idea!

No you can not see it at all unless you look way into the cracks! That was one of the problems finding the right profile because it had to reach in far enough with out sticking up and getting caught as the door closed.

No I think that would be over kill and it would not seal any better because the upper half of the door is the only place with a second edge close enough for a double seal. It is also the only place on the doors that stick out to grab the wind as it goes bye. The lower half of the door is smooth with the body and the wind flows over it much better with out the turbulence occurring.
