Power Steering Pump Question
Was replacing my power steering pump and the new pump was leaking out of the backside lower mounting bolt. Put some teflon tape on it and it seemed to stop it. Is this normal?

Re: Power Steering Pump Question
Not normal.
Did you get just the pump and install your old reservoir onto it ? There is a square cut o-ring seal between the pump and reservoir on the inside to seal it from leaking there. Sounds like yours is missing. I dont have an exact picture, but here is one I did awhile back. Notice in the package of seals the two on the lowest right of the baggie, that's them.

Re: Power Steering Pump Question
Pump and reservoir were one piece remanufactured unit from Kragen. It's leaking out of the mounting hole on the lower back. I would assume it's supposed to be a blind hole, might have been drilled to far at the factory. Pump works good other then that. Teflon tape seemed to fix it. Edit: Reread your post. So I'd have to take the pump apart to put that seal in? I think I'll just leave it be for now.

Re: Power Steering Pump Question
The pump has at least two mounting holes on the back that studs with a flange go into for mounting.
Seal these with gasket sealer and put in a bolt if you do not need a mounting stud in that position. If you need a stud, but do not have one, use a bolt and washer with lots of sealant. The bolt only has to be 1/2" deep unless it is being used with a mounting bracket.
