69 fleetside tailgate to 72

Today I bought a 69 tailgate with the trim plate and chrome letters that cover the stamped chevrolet letters . My truck is a plain jane with just the stamped tailgate, should I remove the plate with letters or install like it is? I kind of like it with the painted letters like original . I dont plan on putting trim around the tail lights to match the tailgate. My original tailgate looks ok on the outside ,it is just very bowed on the inside. What are your thoughts on this. My truck is very plain and I think it would look strange with a fancy tailgate on it.
Thanks John

Re: 69 fleetside tailgate to 72

I`d take it off.I only like all the trim or none.I also really like the tradition of proudly stamping the brand of truck into the tailgate.A cool feature now lost with the carification of the modern truck.Gotta please the car people (who buy trucks),afterall .
Although I`ve been into highly optioned trucks with all the trim,i came to realize in the`80s that putting a fancy shiney fragile band of aluminum across the tailgate was not the brightest idea.I rarely saw one that wasn`t dinged.Nothing worse than damaged trim, defeats the purpose and just adds ugly.I eliminated the band on my`84 or that reason.i sold the trim before it got dented.*

* these bands are tougher than the later ones mounted over a void.
