s10 a/c
Can someone tell me if I can take the heater a/c box out of an s10 and mount it in a AD firewall? Really don't want to buy vintage air and thought this might save some bucks. Thanks

Re: s10 a/c
It's possible, but it would be a lot of fab work. I kept the heater out of my s10 in case I decided to do this, until last week when I threw it away...and mine didn't have A/C. I'm going aftermarket with mine.
Your best bet would be to cut the firewall out of the s10, and then figure out how to graft it in the other truck so you'd have mounting surfaces, holes, etc. Then you'd have to either graft the s10 controls into your dash, or figure out something different there too. The s10 cab was a lot farther forward on the engine than the AD truck is...and the dash is a lot deeper so you may not have room under the AD dash for everything.

Re: s10 a/c
I thought it might be a little tough. I thought I would hide the controls in the glovebox maybe. So could I use the original heater and maybe an under the dash unit for a/c?

Re: s10 a/c
if you are going with a aftermarket a/c it will have a heater also. the S10 box will be to wide for the AD firewall

Re: s10 a/c
You can mount it upside down. I did, look through my build page and you can see how I did it. My truck is a low budget build.

Re: s10 a/c
Thanks for the answers guys. I've done several cars but never messed with a pickup before, so it's all new to me. Just putting together a low buck driver to go back and forth to work in.

Sgtusmc, that is one cool ride. I'm new on here so I'm a little slow. I looked through your build page and couldn't find where you mounted the heater box. Probably looked right at it. Can you tell me what page it's on? thanks

Re: s10 a/c
And they said it couldn't be done. That's impressive and I think I'll do the same thing. I really appreciate you taking time to do the pics. I'm trying to keep costs down and stuff like this really helps. Hope you don't mind if I copy some of your other ideas. I am going to buy an ezswap kit to mount the body, so I called a guy today to see what it would cost to weld the brackets and get the frame ready. He said $4000-4500. More if he mounts the motor. (not counting the body) think I'll get a new plan. lol Anyway, thanks again for the pics.
