67-72 door handles question
Has anyone every installed or seen different door handles on this trucks? Im gathering up ideas before I start working on my 68. I want to keep the handles but they are too bulky I was thinking of something smaller and nicer like maybe first gen camaro handles. Any ideas or pictures, and how would you do it?

Re: 67-72 door handles question
Door handle swaps are pretty easy. You will need to drill, cut, and weld on the doorskin to mount any other set. After fitment, it is simply a matter of routing a few 1/8" rods inside the door to fit the new handle. It is not uncommon to trim the doorskin of the donor car and weld it into yours.
A cool mod I have seen was to shave the handles completely, and route the push button mechanism to the key cylinder. The door will always be locked when closed. There is no need for a battery saver to keep solenoids from locking you out. Put the key in and turn it, and the door pops open. Last edited by suprachrgd82; 12-02-2009 at 01:57 PM. |

Re: 67-72 door handles question
Wish I did have a few pictures to post up. The mod is super easy. It is common move the key to another spot the door lower than stock to keep it clean. The bodywork after welding is the hardest (tedious) part.
I'll be doing this to my truck, but it is several months off, with the key in the factory location. I'll post pics as I begin work. Here's an example picture of the rods for a door handle. Part #2 in the pic is the one that will be modified. The rod will simply need re-routing to the key cylinder, rather than the handle. Re-routing is usually accomplished by cutting and bending one of the existing rods. https://w05.dealerconnect.chrysler.c...S/808fec10.gif A few other furums with some info: http://www.rangerpowersports.com/for...d.php?t=122582 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/a.../t-197104.html http://forum.sportruck.com/showpost....age=&view=&sb= Last edited by suprachrgd82; 12-03-2009 at 02:03 PM. |

Re: 67-72 door handles question
A little hard to tell. They seem to be some kind of light weight metal although not magnetic. Its a good feeling handle.
