heater question

The heater in my '69 C-10 won't get very hot, barely better than luke warm. I've just put in a 195 degree thermostat and that didn't help. It has a 292 in it. It was 20 degrees here this morning so I could use some suggestions, thanks.

My guess would be
1) bad/blocked heater core

2) Broken controller to switch to/adjust/increase the heat.

First, make sure that the water pump is pumping. Take the small heater hose off of the heater core and start the engine momentarily to check for water pump operation. It should pump a full stream of coolant. If that is OK, take a water hose and back flush the heater core. Flush from the large hose through the small hose. That should give you plenty of heat if the blend door is allowing the air to pass through the heater core. Good Luck!!

thanks for the help guys. I replaced the heater switch on the dash and reworked all the cables and doors/flappers, so I think all that is working good. As far as the water pump, it should be good as well, she's my daily driver and she runs at 210 degrees all day long. I'll back flush the heater core tomorrow, hope that does the trick.

Do you have a manual valve inline with the heater hoses by chance? Check the vacum valve as well. Check the heater box inside the truck once you get it up and running. The outer black surface should be warm if not you ant pumping through the core for some reason.
Make sure the cables didn't pop off the tit's and they are just moving back and forth without doing anything.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

I have a similar issue with mine. The truck itself doesn't get very warm, today I even blocked half of the radiator and I still can't get much heat into my engine.

Check the thermastat see if it even has one. A lot of people take them out during the summer to let the motor stay coolier.

I replaced it last week. I've been all through the heating system in the last week. Sometime before I bought the truck, a mouse had taken up residence in the heating system so I took it all apart and cleaned it all out. I just absolutely cannot get this thing to run warm, I can watch the temp gauge rise til the thermostat opens, then it drops way down.

Then you have a thermostat issue. A tstat is intended to bring an engine up to optimum temperature as quickly as possible and keep it there to burn fuel more efficiently. If your engine is dropping back below the tstat temp then it's not closing like it should. You didn't install it upside down did ya? You will occasionally get one that is bad right out of the box. If you have a 190 in there, then the engine should stay at 190 or higher.
